110715 Mission Status

We’re good for GO this Friday, 15/7.

The EDGE has acquired new laptop in the form of an Asus G73SW – primarily for graphic design/work purposes of course, but I’ve also been busy building it up and kitting it out for the next gaming foray. This new 17″ stealth powerhouse (review to come after further testing) will allow us to now step up to the current crop of games during most missions as Wood will be promoted and approved to use Deepthought, upping the minumum spec’d PC which has been holding us back to date. The only known drawback being Windows 7’s compatibility issues with V8SC3, but as an alternative, GRID is now on the table, along with DIRT3!

The EDGE encourages legitimate forms of software acquisition and provides the following list of genuine games on hand so that agents can seek out their own genuine copies. Many of the titles are now available for as little as $10. Titles from the “Games Installed” STEAM list should be a priority! Please share any bargains you find in the “For Sale” section of the blog.

GAMES INSTALLED: Battlefield2 (+ Special Forces), Call of Duty 2, Soldier of Fortune 2 Gold, BattleStations Midway, GRID, DIRT3, MS Flight SimulatorX
[STEAM: Brink, Call of Duty: Black Ops,  (JustCause2 – Single player only)]

GAMES AVAILABLE*: Combat Flight Sim 3, IL-2 Sturmovik – 1946, Heros of the Pacific, Grand Theft Auto – tales from Liberty City, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Test Drive Unlimited 2, Need for Speed – Most Wanted, Crysis + expansions, Command & Conquer 3 – Tiberium Wars, Medal of Honour Airbourne, Call of Juarez- Bound for Blood, Stranglehold, Dead Space, World in Conflict – Complete Edition, Age of Empires 3, Assassin’s Creed, (V8SC3 – XP only!)
[STEAM: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Counter-Strike & Source, Day of Defeat, Deathmatch Classic, Half-Life, Half-Life2 series, Lead and Gold, Metro 2033, Richochet, Team Fortress Classic]
*Some of these games have not yet been tested for Windows 7 compatibility.

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION: Now we have the firepower, are there any other titles you’d be interested in playing on gaming night and from the above, what are you likely to want to play?

  1. I am planning on coming up for the next spectacular event at this stage Raw, so bring your big stick and punish away . . . six of the best and all that . . . 😉

  2. Oh and Tone, how much had you had BEFORE you typed the paragraph before “Games Installed”? I quote “The EDGE encourages legitimate forms of software acquisition” . . . aaahhhh . . . LOL !

  3. punishment should be a swift kick to the love spuds.I think we should have a raffle to see which agent gets to deliver this swift kick 😉

  4. Hey Tone, I think I know why my 1 year old HP outran your new ASUS – I’ve got the SSD in the HP I was using up there, not the other HP I left at home. Explains a lot!

Really shows how a SSD speeds things up…

  5. I am sorry Parts, but you are unable to purchase raffle tickets for your own punishment due to the fact that you may be too soft on yourself ;).
$5 each or 3 for $10, there is a high demand for this prize so ticket prices reflect this 🙂

  6. As it happens Mr Parts, I legitimately own all the games listed in this post except one, which I am currently testing but is available for about $15 and intend to purchase it at the next opportunity. After that remark, I want a love spud ticket for free – great Idea Raw, congratulations, you’ve been promoted to conformation and disciplinary officer, first kick is yours.

Commander: yep, that would do it. I also have to remove all the bloatware on this lappy. As you suggested, a clean install would be best. but in reality, that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

  7. Would the game you are currently testing but don’t actually have in your collection be the same one I am currently testing and don’t have in my collection either? You know, the one with boats?

    • Yep Parts, that would be the one with boats and stuff.

Mick, There’s new versions of Operation Flashpoint out but I haven’t looked at them. From my understanding they are more realistic with bullet drop over distance and wind comming into effect. I did look at a version of ARMA a while ago, I think it was 2. Similar to flashpoint in realism, more time seemed to be spent navigating your way to battles over large distances than time spent fighting. I used to enjoy the oringinal Flashpoint we used to play at ICC, I imagine it would look much better on our current spec machines – oh hell yeah!!
